NOKIA 7200 Mobile Burn | Selular | Gallery
You knew it had to come. Nokia has just unveiled its first clamshell phone for the GSM market, called the 7200. Nokia is taking the "fashion" in fashion phone to a whole new level with textile covers - covers made of cloth and available in 3 different tone-on-tone combinations. They are also introducing a new concept with the introduction of "Style Packs" for the 7200, which will feature a Xpress-On Textile Cover, soft pouch, wrist strap, animated screen saver, and wallpaper. Internally, the 7200 is one of the first Nokia phones with features such as a 65K color display, VGA (640x480 pixels) camera, video playback and recording, and presence-enhanced contacts. First up, the screens. The main screen on the 7200 is a 65K colors TFT display (Series 40 phones were 4K colors). Unfortunately, the screen resolution has not been upgraded, and still remains at 128x128 pixels. The 7200 also has an external monochrome display of 96x36 pixels for displaying missed calls, messages, and a variety of other things. The polyphonic system has been upgraded to allow for playback of 16 chord polyphonics, as well as voice clips. Radio and handsfree functionality is also included. The radio will be able to be used as an alarm clock alert.
Being a lifestyle phone, Nokia has enhanced some of their applications for a more PDA approach. For example, you will be able to use the improved calendar function to view the busy and free time slots for the week, use a notepad for jotting down notes, access the mobile wallet (which can store your personal data), and get fit with the help of the new countdown and stopwatch timers. On the network side, the 7200 can use both EDGE and GPRS data for sending MMS messages and browsing WAP pages. The 7200 is certainly an interesting move for Nokia, which must have been under considerable pressure to release a clamshell model. This certainly won't be the last clamshell we will see from Nokia, so keep a look out if this one doesn't tickle your fancy. Currently, the 7200 will be 900/1800 only, which will be a disappointment to our North American readers. Hopefully they will release a US version soon.
